Presentation:

'Stop It Now! Australia – the role of perpetration prevention in reducing child sexual abuse. What have we learnt, and where to next?'

Stop It Now! Is a child sexual abuse prevention service that provides anonymous support and advice for people concerned about their own or someone else’s sexual thoughts and behaviours towards children. It is a support and action-based service comprising telephone, chat and online resources that aims to prevent child sexual abuse by empowering individuals to take steps to protect children.

The presentation will provide an overview of the service approach, insights based on collaboration with law enforcement and learnings from the pilot period. We will summarise findings from the program research evaluation, and demonstrate how these can be utilised to expand effective perpetrator prevention.

Case studies will be introduced to demonstrate how the program works with (potential) perpetrators, including those who are not yet arrested/known to law enforcement, and how we can use these insights to increase innovative approaches to prevention.
