Sonya Ryan is one of Australia’s leading voices in child protection and online safety. She is the founder and CEO of the Carly Ryan Foundation, established in memory of her daughter Carly, who was tragically murdered by an online predator in 2007, In the wake of unimaginable loss, Sonya turned her grief into action, dedicating her life to protecting children and young people from online harm. She was instrumental in the creation and passage of ‘Carly’s Law’, a landmark piece of legislation that gives law enforcement stronger powers to intervene before a child is harmed by someone with predatory intent.
Under Sonya’s leadership, the Carly Ryan Foundation has grown into an internationally recognised organisation, delivering education, policy reform, and direct support for communities across Australia and the US. Her work has influenced national safety standards, shaped online policy, and empowered countless young people to navigate digital spaces safely.

Sonya continues to work closely with government, law enforcement, and industry to ensure children are protected in an ever-evolving digital world.
