Objectives This session aims to demonstrate how intentional collaboration between survivor voices and investigative professionals can strengthen child sexual exploitation response. Presenters will challenge assumptions about who belongs in this work, illustrate the value of accountability-based partnership, and deliver a message that investigators and child protection professionals rarely receive directly: the work they do matters profoundly - even when they never see how the story ends.

Methods The session draws on the direct personal and professional experiences of two co-presenters - a survivor who later caused harm, spent nearly two decades incarcerated, and transformed his life into advocacy, and a career federal investigator who dedicated 20 years to victim identification and child exploitation investigations. Presenters will engage the audience through co-facilitated dialogue, honest reflection on the discomforts and boundaries inherent in cross-sector collaboration, and firsthand survivor testimony about the lasting impact of investigative and protective intervention.

Results Through their own working relationship, the presenters have demonstrated that meaningful collaboration across vastly different lived experiences is possible - and powerful. Their partnership has produced survivor-informed content, investigator-informed advocacy, and a model that bridges the professional silos that too often limit effectiveness in child protection work.

Conclusions Professionals in this field rarely witness the long-term outcomes of their interventions. This session closes that gap. When a survivor stands before investigators and says your work changed the trajectory of a life - it reframes what daily dedication to this mission actually means. Genuine progress requires breaking silos, but it also requires reminding the people doing this work why it is worth doing.
