Child exploitation offending continues to evolve, increasing in volume and complexity, presenting challenges to investigators and prosecutors alike. Achieving just outcomes in these matters requires seamless collaboration between investigators and prosecutors.

In this presentation, prosecutors from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Commonwealth) (CDPP) will address the critical intersection between law enforcement and prosecution services, offering practical guidance on building partnerships that foster efficient and effective resolution of matters.

Drawing on experience prosecuting both State and Commonwealth child sexual offences, the presentation will outline strategies for building a strong brief of evidence and the importance of early engagement. The session will also explore mechanisms for encouraging early pleas.

Through a series of case studies, the presentation will illustrate the value and importance of inter-agency collaboration through the life of a prosecution, from the commencement of an investigation through to sentence. These examples will offer transferable insights for investigators and prosecutors at every level.

Participants will gain practical strategies to strengthen inter-agency relationships, improve brief quality, and work more effectively towards resolution in child sexual offence investigations.
