Kathleen Davey is a Senior Investigator within the Digital Child Exploitation Team (DCET) at the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs. Since joining the unit in 2015, Kathleen has transitioned from her initial role as an intelligence analyst into her current position as a covert online investigator. Her operational expertise spans the Clearnet, encrypted communication platforms, and the Darknet.
Driven by her experience of investigations and operations relating to online child sexual exploitation material offending, Kathleen is currently conducting a Forensic Psychology Master's thesis into the psychological implications of working in this space. Her research will look specifically at the prevalence of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and moral injury among all roles involved in CSEM investigations, with a specialized focus on the unique risks faced by those operating in covert capacities.
