
Dr Cher Mcgillivray

Dr Cher McGillivray is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra), a member of the Australian Psychological Society, and a Clinical Psychologist, researcher, speaker, and educator. Cher holds a PhD focused on recovery from complex trauma and has research interests in moral injury cognitions, post-traumatic stress disorder, self-compassion, and post-traumatic growth to enhance recovery from complex trauma. Her research aims to better connect policy, public health, and legal systems to improve responses to childhood maltreatment.
Cher is also a collaborator on the Safe Online funded research project, Shifting Towards Best Practice Responses for Unknowing Victim-Survivors of Capping and Related CSAM Offences, led by the AiLECS Lab at Bond University. Her contribution focuses on strengthening trauma-informed responses for victims and survivors, and supporting the development of evidence-based frameworks to guide law enforcement, practitioners, and institutional responses.
Cher spends most of her time as an Assistant Professor at Bond University, in clinical practice at Seed of Hope Psychology, and working as a trauma-informed educator with parents, teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals to advocate for, and offer hope to, individuals and families seeking to live wholehearted lives.
