Dr. Kate Seigfried-Spellar, PhD, MA, is a professor in the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. She is an expert in the psychosocial and technological factors associated with cybercriminal behavior, specifically on the criminological characteristics and grooming strategies of online child sex offenders. Dr. Seigfried-Spellar has special deputy status with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office (Mason, Michigan) to assist with their CSEA investigations involving digital evidence. She works extensively with law enforcement agencies worldwide, conducting research on sensitive operational data and providing training related to vicarious trauma and covert online investigations. She is a Fellow and the former Chair of the Digital and Multimedia Sciences section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and a member of the American Psychological Association, the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts, and the International Association for Identification.
